What is self storage and how does it work?

Self storage is a service offering flexible, do-it-yourself storage for domestic and business customers. We provide clean, dry, internal, access to which is available free of charge seven days a week during our standard opening hours

Your storage unit is locked with your own padlock (a full range is sold in our store), ensuring that only you have access to your goods.

Who can benefit from Self Storage?

Just about anyone. For instance, you might want to free up space in your home or garage, or you could need temporary storage in between moving house. Just about any business can free up expensive office rental space by storing documents with us. Many businesses also use us for general storage solutions - excess stock, bulk storage, or looking after tools or samples. As we offer free and unlimited access during our opening hours, some businesses find it useful to make their space a showroom or extension of their office, as well as for storage.

Why do I need my own padlock?

You need your own padlock to ensure that you are the sole key holder for your storage unit and to ensure that your room is securely locked at all times.

How much does it cost to store my things with you?

The cost of a storage unit depends upon the size of space that you require. We suggest that you consult our on line size estimator, or speak to a member of our staff, to determine the optimum storage for your requirements. A price can then be quoted on the correct size unit. At Storage King we have units ranging from a 1 m3 locker to a 44 m3 unit, prices start from as little as $40 per calendar month.

What is included in the price - are there any hidden extras?

The price you are quoted is the standard rental per calendar month, including GST. You will need a padlock to secure your unit (we sell a full range in store) and we recommend you insure your goods whilst they are in storage (we offer competitive insurance cover through QBE insurance).  There is also a one off $15 administration fee in setting up your agreement.

What about insurance?

For extra peace of mind, we offer flexible, instant approval low cost insurance from as little as $5 per month for $5,000 cover.

Do I pay weekly or monthly?

All of our storage units are payable 1 month in advance. However, we only ask for 14 days notice when you vacate your unit.

Do you offer any discounts?

For longer term stores we offer the following pre-payment discounts:

1/2 month free if paying 6 months paid in advance or 1 month free if paying 12 months in advance.

How can I pay for my storage?

We offer a number of payment options including cash, cheque, automatic payment, internet transfer and most major credit cards:- Visa, Mastercard & Amex. You can also pay online via a credit card.

How often can I have access to my goods and how much does it cost for access?

We offer unlimited FREE access to your goods from

So you can add or remove items from your storage room whenever you require. Access is FREE at Storage King during our standard opening hours.

Do I have to book a room?

No, you can fill in your storage agreement today and move in immediately. However to be guaranteed a unit of a specific size on arrival, it is advisable to make a booking in advance.

Can I move in today?

Yes, a member of our staff will help you fill in our simple storage agreement, and then you can move your goods in straight away. You will need to bring with you a suitable proof of identity (a passport or drivers licence) and a means of payment.

What are your opening hours?

Our Facility opening hours are:

Do I have to sign a lease?

No you don't. You sign a straightforward Storage Agreement prior to moving into your unit. The agreement comprises a simple "no fuss" contract. Our staff will talk you through the contents of the agreement and the key terms you are committing too.

How do I get my goods to you?

You can bring your goods in your own vehicle, if you have enough space. We have ample car parking and large loading/unloading areas. Alternatively, we can recommend local van hire/removal companies to help with your transportation.
We also have a covered furniture trailer available, that is offered for a discounted rate when moving in.

What is the smallest room you have available?

Our smallest rooms are one meter cubed lockers (1m x 1m x 1m), which rent from $40 per month. Our walk-in storage units are between 2.1m & 3m high and start from $120 per month, essentially the size of a small closet.

How high are your storage rooms?

Depending upon the unit you choose, our units range from 1m to 3.5m in height.

Are the storage rooms heated?

Our rooms are not heated. However, the temperature within our facility remains fairly constant, notwithstanding the season.

What sort of security do you have?

Most of our Storage King facilities incorporate extensive security features, including:

• 24 hour Digital CCTV located both inside and outside the main building, monitoring all entrances
• A sophisticated alarm system for the building that is monitored
• Coded electronic gate access to the building allowing access only with your own personal PIN Number
• A fire and smoke detection system in part of our complex
• Security patrols on a nightly basis and able to react to any alarm activations

Storage King Grey Lynn is fully locked down alarmed and monitored outside of our opening hours.

What's the minimum / maximum amount of time I can store for?

The minimum time is as little as 1 month, and the maximum is as long as you want/need. We only require 14 days notice of your intent to vacate - so you'll never have to pay for storage time you don't need.

Do I have to give you notice to leave?

We only require 14 days notice of your intention to vacate your unit. Notice can be given via phone or in writing, by either fax, post or e-mail.

What can I store?

You can store almost anything in our units. The only exceptions are;

• Living items - such as animals & plants
• Hazardous materials - such as flammable liquids and explosives including BBQ or gas heater bottles and bulk Paint
• Any type of food or perishable items
• Unauthorized or illegal goods - such as firearms etc.
• Stolen goods
• Environmentally harmful goods

Do you sell boxes and packing materials, and will you deliver them to me?

Yes, we sell an extensive range of packing materials from boxes to bubble wrap.  booked online.

Do you have trolleys available?

There are a number of different size trolleys, including custom built bed trolleys and a pallet jack available free of charge for customers use.
We also hire hand trolleys to take off site.

Is there someone at the store I can talk to should I have a problem?

There will always be a trained member of staff available 7 days a week during our standard office hours.

Can I transfer to another unit if I find I have too much or too little space?

You are welcome to move to another size unit at any time, depending on your storage requirements and the availability of other unit sizes in your facility.

Why should I store with you when I can use a friend's attic or our garage for free?

Even friends (and the space they can offer) have their limits, days turn into weeks and weeks into months, how long before it strains the friendship. Can you be sure everything is 100% safe and accessible? And how secure, clean and dry is your garage? Will everything fit in?
